Spring Home Maintenance Checklist:

Spring Home maintenance - when the plants and animals are all awakening after Winter, it’s time to make sure your home is primed and ready for warmer weather! Whether it be interior items that need a check-in, or exterior items that need some sprucing, we’ve got you covered to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

Exterior Checklist:

Pest Control

Think carpenter bees, woodpeckers, ticks, rodents, termites, carpenter ants, etc. If your house has wood framing, siding or trim, don’t forget to treat or have a professional evaluate your houses to prevent infestation by wood-destroying insects. This is also a great time to make sure your crawlspaces and unfinished basements are dry and clean and secure from pests.

Inspect Exterior Grading, Gutters, and Downspouts:

Make sure downspouts are properly secured, gutters are clean of debris that could prevent the flow of water and that all water from soil and hard surfaces are draining away from the home.

Maintain Vegetation Near Home:

Small trees, shrubs, vines and weeds should be cleared around the perimeter of the home to prevent damage, especially dead/dying trees or larger branches.

Visually Inspect Roof:

Visually inspect the roof from the ground for any sagging, missing shingles, or loose materials.

Check Main Water Shut-off:

Do you know where your main water shut-off is located? Check that it functions properly and can be quickly accessed in an emergency.

Check Doors, Windows, and Screens:

Check to make sure these are all secure and that there’s no damage or point of entry for pests. This is also a great time to clean your windows and window tracks.

Swimming Pools and Hot Tub Maintenance:

*After the last freeze of the year* Schedule service by a professional to check the pool and/or hot tub as well as the pump and filter equipment, adding any needed chemicals or adjusting the water level.

Interior Checklist:

Service Heating and Cooling System(s):

Schedule servicing now, regular maintenance can extend the life expectancy of the equipment and help prevent service disruptions. Replace air filters as needed.

Check and Clean Bathroom exhaust fans/attic fans:

Fans should be kept clean and in good working order to ensure proper operation and sanitary conditions.

Inspect for Plumbing Leaks:

Inspect sink cabinets and around tubs/showers/toilets for evidence of a leak. If you have your HVAC system seasonally serviced, they should notify you of any leaks with your systems.

Test GFCI outlets and breakers:

To test the outlet just press the test button in the middle of the outlet. If the test does not reset, contact an electrician for repair.

Maintain Plumbing Drains, Dishwashers, and Washing Machines:

Clean garbage disposal, unclog sink/tub/shower drains, clean dishwasher and washing machine (Clean cycles, tablets, enzyme packets, and home remedies can be used like vinegar and baking soda). Refer to the owner’s manual of each appliance for more information.

Test Smoke and CO detectors:

Replace any batteries and make sure they are fully functional.

Inspect Fire Extinguishers:

Make sure the extinguisher is accessible and that you know how to utilize it in an emergency. Contact your local fire department for further instructions.
